| filenesBasement consists of eight 19" lcd monitors taken out of their factory cases, installed vertically, staggered diagonally in a row. The monitors play video animations from eight dvd players which in turn are controlled by a multi-channel synchronizer which determines the sequence of playback. Filene's Basement is a department store chain. The video animation depicts shoppers exiting a specific store in Manhattan after descending an escalator. Individual frames of a video are captured and imported into Photoshop where the backgrounds are removed, revealing the individual figure on pinkish magenta field. The individual shoppers gather, separate, disappear as they negotiate the eight monitor field. |
