4 in a row

4 in a row was performed in New Hampshire in 1989. The artist floated clear plexiglass cubes on a lake. The object of the activity was to float the four cubes so that they aligned in a row. This became a difficult task. It also resulted in a further need to define the rules of the action. It seemed that it was better if the cubes floated upright as opposed to listing one way or the other. So the objective became to float the four cubes as perpendicular to the surface of the lake as possible and also in a straight line (cubes.mpg 10 second video clip).
