The First Crusade was launched in 1095 by Pope Urban II with the stated goal of capturing the sacred city of Jerusalem and the Holy Land from Muslims. What started as an appeal to the French knightly class quickly turned into a wholesale migration and conquest of territory outside of Europe. Both knights and peasants from many nations of Western Europe, with little central leadership, travelled over land and by sea towards Jerusalem and captured the city in July 1099, establishing the Kingdom of Jerusalem and other Crusader states.(Wikipedia) The digital video animations playing on the 1.8" and 2.5" lcd monitors were created from images of medieval toy knights both "saracen" and "crusaders". The installation consists ot the lcd monitors, dvd players hanging from yellow plugs and extension cords, green extension cords, electrical outlets and boxes, audio/video cables and transformers. The configuration of wires, extension cords, monitors and dvd players becomes a drawing. The installation plugs into one wall outlet.
